KZN class of 2016’s markers appointed

Over 10,000 appointed to mark scripts of 171,840 candidates

The Department of Education in KZN announced today that it has appointed over 10,000 people to mark the examination scripts that will be completed by 171,480 candidates.

The department is ready to assume its responsibilities under the leadership MEC Mthandeni Dlungwana, with letters of appointment being sent to 12 districts for distribution.

Markers are assessed on several criteria – they must be teaching the relevant subject in grade 12, have a minimum of five years’ teaching experience and have taught the subject for two of the last three years.

Exams commence on Monday, 24 October and marking starts on 5 December and ends on 15 December.

Markers will arrive at marking centres on 1 December.

In the last week of December, a national standardisation process takes place, where marks for various subjects are standardised and approved by UMALUSI. Once the information is checked and verified, UMALUSI approves the release of the results.

Schools will collect the results from district offices on the morning of 5 January 2017. They then analyse the results and check for any errors, after which, candidates will receive their individual results.

“We are confident that the class of 2016 will do themselves and the province of KwaZulu-Natal proud and we look forward to celebrating their results in early January,” remarked MEC Dlungwana.
