12 myths about animals that we still believe

Some facts that we blindly believe are actually misleading us.

We tend to think that we know everything about animals. However, some facts, which we probably believe, only mislead us.

Brightside decided to find out just which of these so called ‘facts’ are in fact factual, and put an end to the questions.

 

1. 

Myth: Dogs can only see in black and white.

Truth: Dogs can see in many colours, but not as many as humans can.

 

2. 

Myth: Bulls react aggressively to the colour red.

Truth: They want to attack because of the movements in front of them.

 

3. 

Myth: Ostriches bury their heads in the sand when scared.

Truth: In the case of being frightened, they actually ‘fly the coop’.

 

4. 

Myth: Touching toads can give you warts.

Truth: Toads don’t cause warts.

 

5. 

Myth: Chameleons change their colour to blend in with their environment.

Truth: They change their colour to reflect their moods.

 

6. 

Myth: “You stomp like an elephant.”

Truth: Elephants actually walk really quietly.

 

7. 

Myth: A blue whale can swallow a whole car.

Truth: A grapefruit is the biggest thing that this whale can swallow.

 

8. 

Myth: Moles are blind.

Truth: Moles can see, but they do have poor eyesight.

 

9. 

Myth: Mice love cheese.

Truth: Cheese is not a mouse’s favourite food.

 

10.

Myth: Fish are mute.

Truth: Fish make sounds similar to the noise on a busy farm.

 

11. 

Myth: Its a horn on a rhino’s nose.

Truth: Its not a horn but rather a peculiar hard crest (of hair).

 

12. 

Myth: In winter, animals get cold and therefore they hibernate.

Truth: They hibernate because of the scarce source of food in winter.
