Women empowerment in focus for SDCEA workshop
They urged all women to take up and occupy leadership positions.

THE South Durban Community Environmental Alliance (SDCEA) hosted an Environmental Politics and Women Empowerment workshop on Tuesday, 7 August at Austerville community hall.
In celebration of Women’s Month, they had 118 women in attendance from various communities in the South Durban area, contributing to a wealth of knowledge and experiences from different walks of life.
SDCEA thanks the TAFTA Revellers for providing fun and entertainment. The selection of speakers were Maureen Rambhadursing from the Poor Flat Dwellers Movement; Dr Lubna Nadvi, a political analyst and lecturer from UKZN and Thoko Makhanya from Biowatch. These three revolutionary women have served on the frontlines by defying and challenging different sectors of society and governmental norms, gender inequality, politics, and environmental injustices by relentlessly serving others. They urged all women to take up and occupy leadership positions to influence change and serve as role models for future generations.
“The Constitution protects many critical rights for women, including the right to equality; the right to freedom and security of the person (including the right to freedom from violence); the right to make decisions concerning reproduction; and the right to security and control over one’s own body.”
