Seafarers speaker shares with Stainbank WI
It is always good to see all the members every month at the new venue.

STAINBANK Women’s Institute (SWI) president Arlene Greenfield opened the meeting with the WI prayer and welcomed all members and visitors to the monthly meeting.
It is always good to see all the members every month at the new venue.
Apologies were received from Elaine de Jager. Secretary Barbara Isley read out a letter of thanks from the WI’s own residential home Evelyn House, acknowledging its donation. Vice president and treasurer Linda Hewer read out the balance sheet, which it seems could do with a little assistance from members. The charity for next month will be for the animals in the area, which always need assistance. Linda then gave a short report on the recent PT and S meeting.
After tea with thanks to the members, the president introduced speaker Rev Boet van Schalkwyk from the Sailors Society. Although the WI has had Rev van Schalkwyk before at its meetings, each time he gives so much more important information about the Seafarers and how they provide service for the wellbeing of all seafarers, irrespective of nationality, gender or faith and if they need medical attention. Fortunately due to the help of all SWI members, lots of mittens, beanies and scarves could be donated for the sailors along with many mugs as it is getting towards Christmas and every sailor in port receives a Christmas gift from Father Christmas as he visits every ship.
Birthdays and anniversaries were celebrated and then it was on with the raffles. The R40 club and swindle member Bev Henning was very lucky this month. Southern Hills AGM will be held on Thursday, 29 November, hosted by Yellowwood Park WI. Make a special effort to attend as it will also be a special fun evening.
The meeting closed with the WI prayer after the vice chairman read out the competition results. Members were asked to make a special effort to enter the competitions and many thanks were paid to judge Hazel Demo for all her advice.
