Young bowlers set the bar at Wentworth Bowling Club
It is with deep regret and sadness that WBC announces the tragic passing of its member, Kenny Godfrey. A memorial service will be held at the club at 2pm on Wednesday, 17 July, and will be followed by 10 ends of bowls in honour of Kenny.
July has been a celebratory month at the Wentworth Bowling Club (WBC).
Following the news of Troy Garland’s selection to the Port Natal under 30 team, came the announcement that Troy and brothers, Trystan and Kearan Lassak, have been selected by Port Natal bowls as part of the 12 strong junior masters squad and will participate in the junior masters singles tournament at the end of August at Westville Bowling Club.
The achievements of the club’s young talent auger well for the future of WBC and lawn bowls in general and will contribute to the success and development of the club as more and more local junior sportsmen and women realise that the sport offers an exciting challenge.
Lawn bowl’s reputation as a genteel sport played at a sedate pace well-suited to its elderly, white-clad participants is in a revolutionary state of change with the introduction of new dress codes and exhilarating game formats that allow for quick, fun and fast games that capture the attention of bowlers and spectators alike.
Members of the community who would like to attempt to master the bias and take up the challenging game are invited to contact the club’s promotion and development organiser, Margaret Walters on 082-961-8538 or Jay Retief on 083-661-5835 for details.
Friday’s Tomasina’s men’s casual bowls continues to attract a group of competitive bowlers who enjoy the healthy outdoor activity and welcomes any BSA registered bowlers to join in the fun on the greens and enjoy a bite to eat from the menu offered by Fred’s Kitchen. Play starts at 9am.
It is with deep regret and sadness that WBC announces the tragic passing of its member, Kenny Godfrey.
Kenny’s big smile, hearty laugh and enthusiastic enjoyment of the game will be missed on the greens. A memorial service will be held at the club at 2pm on Wednesday, 17 July, and will be followed by 10 ends of bowls in honour of Kenny.
