Ramblers to explore Hill ‘n Dale and Stonehaven Castle

DURBAN Ramblers Hiking Club will walk from Hill ‘n Dale farm (formerly Bartlett Estate) to Hammarsdale on Saturday, 3 August.

Hike through conservancy, sugar cane and grassland with good views on a clear day. A donation of R20 is payable for the conservancy.

Directions: from N3, take exit 33 Hammarsdale off ramp, left towards Hammarsdale, right onto D657, (Hill ‘n Dale). Meet by 1.30pm on sand road. Proceed in convoy to farm. Call hike leader Werner Vanslembrouck on 084-206-7836 about this grade three moderate hike of about seven to eight kilometers.

On Sunday, 4 August Durban Ramblers will hike at Stonehaven Castle in Shongweni.

Steep uphill from the railway line to Summerveld, returning on a circular path over grasslands and through bush. Do not attempt this hike if you suffer from vertigo. Meet at Union Main Centre, Old Main Road, Pinetown at 8am, to drive in convoy to the castle. Petrol sharing of R20 is payable.

Non-members need to book with the hike leader. Call hike leader Jon Stevens on 082-459-1522 about this grade three strenuous hike of about 15 kilometres with a vertigo warning.
