A busy weekend of play ahead for Bluff Bowling Club Members

The upcoming weekend games excite players.

BLUFF Bowling Club (BBC) recently hosted social bowls, tabs in, in sweltering heat and humidity. Those who attended the drawn pairs enjoyed the camaraderie and good sportsmanship.

The monthly 321 killer pairs was greeted with cooler raining conditions. The visitors and members who rolled up, managed to have a game as the rain held off, in challenging conditions which are often experienced with the Durban climate.

The 321 killer pairs will be played on the first Friday of every month and there are nice prizes to be won. While playing, the scent of delicious curry cooking at the outdoor facility kept the players motivated as it called their taste buds to attention. Thereafter, the players enjoyed a plate of curry and rice which was generously sponsored by Brian Osman. Greg Dorrofield and Spider Williams expertly blended the spices and ingredients together to create a superb curry of flavour, texture and taste.

By the afternoon, the rain was pouring down yet again which inevitably meant the twilight trips had to be postponed once again. Hopefully it will not be rained out next week as there is much enthusiasm around the series with the teams eager to pit themselves against one another.

The previous tabs in competition was another washout, with not a bowl been rolled. However, the moist turf is enabling the roots to benefit from the rain after a long hot and dry spell.

However, there was an excellent turnout for the Wolf Electrical pairs competition which produced some exciting bowls. The second session winners were Jeff Waterman and Jeff Stone on 2+22. The second overall winners were Spider Williams and Rob Armstrong with a score of 4+18, and the overall winners were Robert Mhlongo and Luvuyo Ndavu who scored 4+23.

Saturday, February 12, sees the women’s fours final take place at 13:00. The team of Sarie Bisset, Wendy Fleetwood, Jay Retief and Cookie Koekemoer play against Bridget White, Elize Stapelberg, Daphne Fortuin and Glynis Mackrory. It promises to be a great contest as district bowlers are represented in both teams.

On Sunday, February 13, four men’s and two women’s sides travel to different clubs to play in the Port Natal trips. Good bowling to all representing.

The club encourages anyone interested in a game of lawn bowls to head to the club and enjoy a social game and meet club members.
