eThekwini Municipality replaces streetlights on The Bluff

The long-awaited upgrade of the broken streetlights on The Bluff is finally getting the attention it deserves from the municipality.

IN a bid to upgrade and renew the Brighton Beach area on The Bluff, the eThekwini Municipality is replacing streetlights on Foreshore Drive.

The Bluff has particularly suffered from malfunctioning streetlights and theft of electricity cables. Despite complaints from ratepayers’ associations, the municipality had to halt the project, prompting further frustration among residents.

Ward 66 councillor Zoë Solomon said in a statement, “I have put in so many requests to fix streetlights, paint road markings and fix long outstanding issues. So far, the valve in the tidal pool has been repaired, Brighton Paddling Pools have been renovated and the lifesaving club roof has been replaced (ceilings going in).

In addition to the upgrade made along the Brighton Beach Promenade, Solomon said the Anstey’s Paddling Pools will receive a full face-lift, including the ablution and change rooms.

“The fisherman’s walk and wall at Cave Rock is restored and renovated. The dune rehabilitation has been undertaken. I keep the faith alive that issues for water quality in the sea will be resolved and we can all enjoy this beautiful space on The Bluff beaches,” read the statement.
