Unicorn and Sunshine shopping day gives back to those in need

Bluff Assist hosted its first Sunshine and Unicorn shopping day for the year, which aimed to assist those in need.

SMILES were plentiful on a warm sunny day on January 11 as Bluff Assist once again turned the old boxing club on Tara Road into its Unicorn and Sunshine shopping day venue to bring much-needed joy and relief to the most vulnerable in The Bluff community.

Monica Pelser, Bluff Assist chairperson, said the organisation received 100 bags of donations, that were handed over to members of the community.

From adults’ and children’s clothing and shoes to household goods, toys, school uniforms, and stationery – the pop-up shopping experience had it all. To make life easy for the shoppers, clothes were already separated according to sizes.

“We allowed shoppers to select what they need. Seeing the excitement and joy on the children’s faces is incredibly rewarding. Events like these are only possible because of our amazing Bluff community; their generous contributions help us spread a little joy and support those in need,” said Pelser.

Bluff Assist’s Chantal Bansgrove-Bower and Jorgen from Unique Towing who assisted in transporting the goods.

The Unicorn and Sunshine shopping day brought out the power of community and compassion. Pelser said, “We can only say thank you for opening your hearts and sharing with others.”

This was a beautiful reminder of what can be achieved when a community comes together to care for its own.
