Sister Allison Andrews, founder of the non-profit, explained that the outreach was aimed at helping people who were affected by poverty, unemployment and lack of access to healthcare. She added that the event was a major success and was supported by a number of partners and sponsors.

In partnership with the Friends of the Sick Association, the academy provided free health screening, HIV testing and counselling and distributed much-needed winter clothing such as blankets, warm clothes, beanies, gloves, scarves and sanitary towels. The individuals were also given hot chicken soup with bread.

“Individuals were so eager to have their vitals checked because, for many, getting to health care services is a struggle. A warm coat or blanket can see them through the winter and for others, even a clean set of clothes can be the gap between keeping them from being working and improving themselves,” said Andrews.

She expressed her special thanks to all who made the day possible including family, friends and Mediskills team. A special thanks to South African Ultimate Protection Services for security and making everyone safe.
