Four suspects caught for house break-ins on The Bluff

The suspects allegedly drove around looking for properties left unattended while residents were at church, shopping or elsewhere.

FOUR men were apprehended for their alleged involvement in a spate of house break-ins on The Bluff.

The suspects were apprehended during a recent joint operation involving the Bluff Community Policing Forum, YT Security and a tracker company.

After weeks of observation by Bluff CPF, working tirelessly with YT Security and members of the tracker company, information was received about four suspects who were targeting The Bluff.

According to a joint statement, the suspects allegedly drove around looking for properties left unattended while residents were at church, shopping or elsewhere. They would then break in through a window and steal jewellery and other valuables.

A member of the Bluff CPF spotted the vehicle on Edwin Swales Drive and immediately requested back-up while following the vehicle. The vehicle joined the M4 freeway and headed towards the Durban CBD area.

Members from YT Security and  Homeland Security immediately mobilised to assist the Bluff CPF.

The vehicle stopped on Umbilo Road and four suspects jumped out of the vehicle carrying a safe which they had just stolen from The Bluff.

“The suspects were caught inside a panel beating shop cutting open the safe which they had just stolen from a house break-in on The Bluff.

“The members detained all  four suspects, as well as a stolen firearm, jewellery and passports taken in the house break-in,” the statement read.
