Pipeline burst halts water supply to Woodlands reservoir
Repair work is expected to continue until October 13 as the leak requires the pipeline to be isolated for some time.
A MAJOR leak in the 1000mm steel gravity supply pipeline has disrupted water supply to areas served by Woodlands 3 and 4 reservoir.
Ward 64 councillor Norman Gilbert has advised residents to use water wisely as low water pressure may be experienced in the affected areas.

“Repairs require the pipeline to be isolated while the team excavates and fixes the leak.
“Only one pump will be operating from the SCA pump station to maintain supply during this time. If repairs take longer than expected, outlets may be isolated to prevent the reservoirs from draining,” said Gilbert.
In a statement, eThekwini Municipality said during this process, water supply to the Woodlands 3 and 4 reservoir will be severely constrained, which will affect supply to downstream dependent reservoirs and supply zones.

“Repair work is expected to be completed on Monday morning (October 13), thereafter the recovery of the system will commence and is expected to take up to five days to reach sufficient levels.
“However, it must be noted that the recovery of reservoirs will vary with other reservoirs recovering sooner than others,” eThekwini Municipality said.
The affected central reservoirs include:
Mobeni 1 and 2 reservoir:
Durban Old Airport, Isipingo Beach, Jacobs, Merebank East, Merewent, Mobeni, Mobeni West, Prospecton Industrial and Reunion.
Wentworth reservoir:
Austerville, Brighton Beach, Stanvac and Wentworth.
Woodlands 3 and 4 reservoir:
Bayhead, Clairwood, Congela, Durban Airport, Grosvenor, Isipingo Beach, Jacobs, Merebank East, Mobeni, Montclair, Rossburgh, Sea View and Woodlands.
