Joint operation targets illegal connections near The Bluff

A joint police and private security companies' operation targeted the removal of illegal connections in the informal settlements

A JOINT operation between metro police and private security companies yielded positive results after illegal cables were removed from the informal settlement near Solomon Mahlangu Drive recently.

The operation started in the morning where the officers swooped into the informal settlement and into residential homes where home owners had connected electricity illegally.

The operation forms part of eThekwini Municipality’s strategic plans to curb the issue of illegal connections around the City.

Richard Hawksworth from the Peninsula Ratepayers Association emphasised that the issue of illegal connections has a negative impact on the City’s attempt to deliver services to the community.

He said this was the second operation conducted at the informal settlement near Solomon Mahlangu Drive.

“We have disconnected a large amount of cables. This is not going to be our last operation, but we will continue removing the cables until the people abide by the laws,” he said.
