Stepping up for paws

Step2Stage are using their passion for dance to supplement their love for animal welfare with two unique fundraisers.

THE Bluff dance studio, Step2Stage, will host a series of fundraising events, Fred Bassest Steps For Change, looking to turn their passion for dance into a tangible benefit for animal welfare.

Birttany-Taylor Pillay, owner and teacher at the dance studio, said that both fundraisers will not require tickets, and instead people are required to bring bags of pet food, warm blankets or various toys.

All donations from this show will be donated to assist several animal rescue groups. The organisations slated to benefit are Bluff Kennels, Cinderella Animal Rescue, Stray Paws Animal Rescue and Welfare and Nicky’s Little Claw and Paw Rescue.

For Pillay, the initiative stemmed from a personal matter a month ago when her beloved dog of 12 years died, a loss that prompted her to channel her grief into a constructive and meaningful initiative.

‘I wanted to transform his memory into a lasting symbol of hope for other animals. I am profoundly passionate about both dance and animals, and so I am utilising my studio as a means to support these animal rescue organisations,” said Pillay.

First fundraiser

The first event will host a hip-hop dance class on April 25 at the St Margaret Presbyterian Church on The Bluff. This session, accessible to individuals of all age groups and proficiencies, was designed to provide an opportunity for participants to acquire new dance techniques and engage in physical activity, while contributing to the welfare of animals requiring assistance. The event will run from 09:00-09:45.

Second fundraiser

For the second fundraiser, the dance studio will host a special family fun day fundraising show on June 27 and will feature a display of the Step2Stage dancers.

Beyond the scheduled performances, the day will include a variety of activities suitable for everyone. To add to the fun, a selection of puppies will also be present for adoption.

Supporting the cause

She added that she will oversee the coordination of the project, extending invitations to community members and local businesses to participate. Businesses, in particular, were encouraged to consider showcasing their services at the event.
