Robber gets 8-year jail sentence
A Wentworth resident, Jaydin Wiliams, was sentenced to eight years in jail at the Durban Magistrate's Court recently.
A 20-YEAR-OLD man was sentenced to eight years imprisonment for robbery at the Durban Magistrate’s Court recently.
Jaydin Williams was convicted for armed robbery committed in August 2024.
According to the police, the victim was walking along the intersection of Austerville Drive and Tuin Road in Wentworth when Williams approached him from behind.

Police spokesperson in Wentworth, Captain Mbuso Gumede said, “The accused then drew a firearm and pointed it at the victim, demanding a packet he was carrying.
“When the victim resisted, the accused forcefully took the packet, which contained a cellphone and other personal belongings. The accused fled the scene on foot,” said Gumede.
Gumede said the victim reported the incident to Wentworth police station.
“A case was assigned to Detective Sergeant Bhekithemba Manqoba Zulu, who wasted no time, and used his investigative skills to collect the evidence.

“On August 15, 2024, Zulu took the victim to a place where the accused was, and he positively identified the accused.
“Williams was arrested and charged for robbery with aggravating circumstances. A cellphone was also traced after a witness came forward and handed it over.
“The investigation also revealed that the accused had previous convictions of armed robbery and pending cases of theft. Police also discovered that he was out on parole for these cases,” Gumede added.
The eight-year sentence will run concurrently with the other sentences that the accused is currently serving.
The management at the Wentworth police station commended Zulu for achieving another conviction.
