THE man who stood trial for a house robbery that took place in Montclair in July 2025 was sentenced to 15 years at the Durban Regional Court recently.

Thobelani Mdletshe (25) was accused of robbing high school learners who were attending a house party in Montclair.

According to the testimony of the investigating officer, Sergeant Bhekumuzi Dlamini, Mdletshe and two accomplices entered the house and demanded cellphones from the victims.

Eight cellphones, a jacket and pair of sandals were taken. The suspects fled the scene shortly afterward. Learners whose cellphones were not taken managed to report the incident at the Montclair police station.

Following the police investigation, Mdletshe was arrested the next day at his home in Umlazi.

“The investigation led officers to a home in Umlazi where the arrested suspect was found wearing a jacket that had been stolen from the learners. He was charged for house robbery,” said Dlamini.

Police recovered some of the stolen cellphones. The two remaining suspects are still at large.
