The drive aimed to assist residents with municipal account queries, debt relief applications and other service-related matters by providing them with direct access to city departments and officials. The initiative helps bridge the gap between the community and the city’s administration.
Deputy chairperson of the BRRA, Allison Schoeman, said the event was part of an ongoing effort to bring essential services closer to the people.
“We recognised a need within our community for greater access to municipal services and support. This outreach provided a platform for residents to raise concerns, seek clarity, and receive guidance on issues such as billing, meter readings, and the municipality’s special debt relief programme,” said Schoeman.
Citizens engaged one-on-one with representatives of various city departments during the day. The validity of meter reading capture, the clearing of outstanding arrears, and the qualifying criteria to benefit from the city’s debt relief programme were among the key issues that dominated discussions.
The majority of those present welcomed the opportunity to get questions answered face-to-face and remarked on the value of face-to-face communication in getting long-outstanding issues settled.
