Planned shutdown of Southern Aqueduct to affect Ward 64 residents

The eThekwini Municipality announced a planned shutdown of the Southern Aqueduct for Tuesday, January 27, affecting Ward 64 residents.

RESIDENTS in ward 64, namely Woodlands, Coedmore and Yellowwood Park, should be prepared for a planned shutdown of the Southern Aqueduct on Tuesday, January 27.

The eThekwini Municipality said the shutdown will be from 01:00 on Tuesday, January 27, until 19:00 on Wednesday, January 28. This break is needed so workers can clean parts of the pipeline and connect the old and new pipeline systems.

Objective

This work is part of the City’s project to upgrade the main water network. The goal is to make the water supply in the southern areas more reliable.

During the time the aqueduct is closed, Water Services workers will watch reservoir levels. People should know that it might take a few days for the reservoirs to fill up again after the work is done. This means it could take a while for all areas to get their full water supply back.

The shutdown will affect many areas that get water from different reservoirs.

The municipality has apologised for any inconvenience this has caused. They are encouraging residents to store water for basic necessities.
