Planned water shutdown to affect Ward 64

The eThekwini Municipality will be temporarily closing the southern aqueduct to make preparations for the ongoing upgrades.

WARD 64 residents relying on the Westcliff reservoir have been notified to prepare for a temporary disruption in their water supply as the eThekwini Municipality initiates a planned shutdown of the Southern Aqueduct tomorrow (March 24) from 07:00 until 07:00 on March 25.

The municipality has confirmed that supply interruptions may affect several neighbourhoods served by the Westcliff reservoir. These include Coedmore, Woodlands and Yellowwood Park.

Reason for shutdown

This interruption is part of routine maintenance managed by the municipality’s Water Services Directorate, which will undertake essential work on the bulk infrastructure along the Southern Aqueduct pipeline. The shutdown will also give contractors the opportunity to finalise preparatory tasks related to a broader upgrade project for the Southern Aqueduct system. Among these activities, certain segments of the pipeline will be scoured to allow for smoother future integration between the current network and new infrastructure.

The municipality have cautioned that if the demand causes water levels to fall significantly, the outlets of the reservoir could be temporarily closed as a measure to conserve water storage and facilitate a quicker recovery of the system once the supply is restored.

The eThekwini Municipality has apologised for any inconveniences caused by this.
