Toddler critical after nearly drowning in family pool
The Yellowwood Park boy‘s family and neighbouring residents helped save him by administering CPR until the paramedics arrived.
A THREE-YEAR-OLD Yellowwood Park boy remains in a critical condition after nearly drowning in the family pool on Monday afternoon.
Montclair Community Policing Forum (CPF) chairman, Shawn Smith, said the boy was rescued by his mother from the pool at about 16:30. He thanked the residents who helped in trying to resuscitate the child until paramedics arrived.
ALS Paramedics Medical Services, as well as paramedics from Netcare911 and EMRS, arrived on the scene after numerous calls for assistance.
“On arrival, we found members of the community and the boy’s family attempting to resuscitate him. The child was then handed over to advanced life support paramedics, who worked to stabilise him before rushing him to a nearby Durban hospital for further treatment,” said spokesperson of ALS Paramedics, Garrith Jamieson.

Jamieson said the joint effort by the boy’s mother, family members and residents, who administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), saved the boy’s life.
Smith said the CPF thanked all residents who rushed to the aid of the family after the distress call.
“We are proud that community involvement led to the boy’s life being saved. We are all here to protect and serve our community,” Smith added.
