Majorettes to host fun-filled outdoor market and movie night
Hoping to attend the South African Majorettes and Cheerleading Association(SAMCA), national championship later this year, the Fynnland Crest Majorettes, are calling for residents to support their fundraising initiative set to take place on Friday.
THE Fynnland Crest Majorettes will be hosting a family outdoor market and movie night to raise money to compete at the South African Majorettes and Cheerleading Association (SAMCA) national championship set to take place later this year.
The fundraising initiative will be held at the Fynnland Combined Sports Club, on Friday, August 26, starting from 6pm.
Bonny Fourie, the founder and co-coach, said the outdoor market and movie was one of their major and final fundraising initiatives for the year in order for the team to attend the championship.
“We decided that an outdoor movie night would be the perfect way to raise money and provide people with a great family experience. We also noted how the old ‘drive-in’ experience is enjoyed by families all over the country.”
Fourie said they had selected the Disney movie, Encanto to be shown.
“The characters are great, the lessons are special, and the soundtrack is awesome. This is a much-loved movie by people of all ages. It is also the type of movie, that people, who may have seen already, would not mind doing so again. However, for those who have not seen it, they will definitely walk away thinking it is perhaps now one of their favourite Disney movies.
“We also decided to combine the movie night, with a market. These stalls will be run by the parents of our majorettes. The money raised at their stalls will then go directly towards their own costs to attend. Each majorette was given an amount that she needed to raise to cover her own costs. We do not expect parents to pay this amount from their pockets,” she said.
Fourie said the championship will be held in Limpopo, Polokwane, between October 3 and 8.
“We are raising money to cover our travel expenses as we will be travelling by bus, as well as for accommodation, meals, and other costs related to being able to partake in the event, such as team registration and individual athlete registration fees.”

Fourie said they were also excited as the event was being held after more than two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
She said their junior team, which comprises 22 girls, aged between seven and 12, would be attending.
“It must be said that attending this championship is a huge deal for the team. The girls have worked so hard and are so looking forward to it. They also deserve an opportunity to go, as their performances in recent competitions put us as one of the top teams in the province. We also train ridiculously long hours, four days a week, so not being able to compete will be heart-breaking for them.
“We, therefore, encourage everyone, young and old, to come to join and support us. There will be lots of food on sale, as well as fun items for children to buy and activities to partake in. Tickets for the movie will be sold in the evening,” she said.
