WATCH: Government heeds displaced flood victims’ call for better living conditions

Displaced flood victims can breathe a sigh of relief after the oversight visit.

MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works, Dr Ntuthuko Mahlaba, was glad to share good news after he conducted an oversight visit at the Transnet-owned Montclair Lodge, earlier today.
The lodge was recently illegally occupied by displaced flood victims who broke the locks and gained entry, seeking better living conditions after they felt let down by the government for not providing them with proper housing.
The displaced victims were forced to return to the Yellowwood Park Civic Hall, where they were being housed since April, when Transnet won a court battle to evict them from the lodge. Now, they are buoyed with hope after news of the lodge being refurbished to properly accommodate them.
