Joint operation leads to recovery of stolen goods, unlicensed firearms
Businesses are urged to increase security measures following an armed robbery.
A SWIFT response by members of security companies and police led to the recovery of stolen goods that were taken during an armed robbery at a South Coast Road business, recently.
Charnel Hattingh, the head of marketing and communications at Fidelity ADT, said The Fidelity Specialised Intervention Unit (SIU), and members of the Brighton Beach police station immediately responded, after an investigation revealed that the alleged robbers were travelling in a blue Toyota Corolla towards Lamontville.
“The suspects fled into a housing development in Lamontville and a joint search of a house was conducted where the stolen cell phones and jewellery were recovered. “The team also seized four unlicensed 9mm firearms, which were handed to the Lamontville SAPS together with the recovered stolen items.
“We commend the teams involved for their swift response, vigilance, and bravery. Business owners are encouraged to conduct regular security assessments in order to resolve any vulnerable or unprotected areas to deter opportunistic criminals. Security technologies such as CCTV, outdoor beams, and roof passives are often used to proactively prevent crime,” said Hattingh.
