Residents urged to switch off power after cable theft
Cable being cut at a substation last night resulted in the power surge.

RESIDENTS from Montclair are urged to turn off the mains switch on their distribution boards to avoid damage to appliances and electrical systems. This after a power surge due to cable theft at a substation last night, August 4.
Ward 64 councillor Gavin Hegter said he was aware of the high voltage and power surges in parts of Woodlands and Montclair.
“Cable theft from a substation last night resulted in the power surge. When cables are cut, it causes a surge which leads to extensive damage to electrical systems and appliances. The municipality has investigated and confirmed that the surge is due to cable theft,” Hegter said.
