WATCH: South Durban community engages with Presidential Climate Commission

They discussed what the country and city will need to change to mitigate climate change and how to prepare for the ongoing climate disruption in the city, for example, the April floods.

THE PRESIDENTIAL Climate Commission hosted a Just Transition framework consultation with stakeholders and residents from the south Durban community to provide a progress update and create a programme of action,

The consultation, hosted at Austerville Hall in Wentworth on September 14, was the second phase of the Just Transition framework and highlighted the benefits, timelines and opportunities of the campaign, and the changes that the country will undertake to introduce a Just Transition.

South Africa’s response to the climate-disruption challenge was discussed. They ascertained the country’s response based on the findings that emerged from a critical analysis of the climate resilience and adaptation capacity of the greater eThekwini area.

They also addressed the feedback on the impact and response of the April rain-bomb phenomenon, climate change and extreme weather events, then addressed how the City will prepare for ongoing climate disruption.
