Author hopes to inspire a journey of self discovery, growth through debut books

Matilda Goldstone says all three books are centered around her life experiences.

FULFILLING her desire to leave a legacy, Matilda Goldstone, has written not one, but three books.
She launched the Christian fiction books, The Holy Masquerade Ball, The Journey of Life and Betrayal: The Iscariot Syndrome, at the Abbaquar San Royal House in Austerville on December 3.

Goldstone, 63, of Austerville, said she is passionate about serving God, and that her main objective is to leave a legacy through her writing for the generations to come.

“Over the years I have written a number of poems which have not been published. However, it was between 2016 and 2019 when I went through a personal crisis that I found writing to be cathartic. While I didn’t start with the intention of writing books, once I started I knew that it was a deep seated desire to leave my mark in this world,” she said.

Goldstone, who is married to Darryl, and has three children, said all three books were centered around her life experiences. The first book, The Holy Masquerade Ball, is location specific.

“I was observing how people portray themselves in church. However, this observation was not only limited to a church setting. I believe that people wear masks in everyday life. The storyline was based on my poems. I converted the storyline to make it relatable,” she said.

Goldstone said The Journey of Life, came from a realisation that life is a journey that everyone has to embark on.

“People are at different stages in their life. I used the example of the various transportation modes to show how one’s life journey progress and the rate at which they do,” she said.

The grandmother of four said her third book was based on personal experiences.

“The book helped me realise that I can forgive an unforgivable situation. However, the book is not only a personal journey, but one that everyone can relate to as everyone has experienced a betrayal of some kind at one time or another,” she said.

Goldstone said she hopes the books would encourage readers to think about their own life experiences.

“I want them to think about what their past experiences taught them and how it influenced them to cause a change in their present experience. I also want the reader to apply the lessons learned, so it can impact their future in a more positive, fruitful way. The book should encourage a journey of self discovery, self growth and a willingness to change the future outcome,” she said.

Bitten by the writing bug, Goldstone said she is currently working on the manuscript for her fourth book.
