Wentworth detective lauded as granny killer handed 15 year sentence
Sergeant Bhekithemba Manqoba Zulu has been highly commended by station commander and the detective branch commander for working tirelessly.
A WENTWORTH police detective, Sergeant Bhekithemba Manqoba Zulu has been lauded for his sterling investigations which resulted in the conviction and 15 year sentence handed down to man for the murder of a Merebank grandmother.
Dhanwathie Fakira, 79, of Arcot Place was found laying on her back in a pool of blood on her bedroom floor, by her visiting relatives on November 25 in 2018.

She had sustained multiple stab wounds to the neck, face and hands and died shortly after paramedics arrived.
Jithin Ramjaewan, 41, of Phoenix, who was a former tenant, was arrested by police a few hours later, and charged with murder.
He was found guilty and sentenced in the Durban Regional Court on November 28. He was also declared unfit to unfit to possess a firearm.
Captain Mbuso Gumede, the Wentworth police spokesperson said the case docket was immediately assigned to Sergeant Zulu and Ramjaewan was arrested on the same day.
“The accused was then charged for the murder of the deceased and Sergeant Zulu collected all the necessary statements required for court proceedings. During the bail application, Sergeant Zulu successfully opposed and the accused was remanded.
“Sergeant Zulu has been highly commended by station commander Colonel Sinayo Mtshali and the detective branch commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Dale Duke for working tirelessly, as well as having excellent and professional communication skills while working with the court prosecutor in solving the murder case. Justice has been served and the accused will remain behind bars,” he said.
Ramjaewan is currently serving his sentence at Westville Prison.
