Residents urged to report flooding and imminent disaster after heavy rainfall warning

The South African Weather Service predicts that the heavy rainfall will intensify just after midday today, January 6.

THE BLUFF residents who experience flooding or notice any imminent disaster during the heavy rainfall, which is expected to intensify as the day progresses, are urged to follow the correct reporting method.

Ward 66 councillor Zoe Solomon said 34mm of rainfall is predicted for The Bluff and surrounding areas.

“Residents are always the eyes and the ears of the community, and we request that those who witness or experience any flooding or looming disaster during the predicted heavy rainfall, which is reported to intensify at around 13:00 today, to report to their street captain,” Solomon said.

The South African Weather Services (SAWS) has issued a Level 9 warning in KZN as widespread showers and thundershowers are expected over the province on January 6.

“As a result of prolonged rainfall and significant amounts of rainfall accumulation, flooding of roads and settlements, displacement of communities, and dangers to lives as a result of fast-flowing, deep water is expected,” indicated the SAWS warning.

Further impacts include widespread and prolonged disruption of essential services, such as water, electricity and communication systems.
