Tracy Williams, a community leader working with police and role-players to enhance safety in the Wentworth area, said urgent intervention is needed.
“We are forced to live our lives in fear of the next shooting, which can occur any time of the day or night. Every day, we jump at the sound of gunshots. We send out warnings on social media groups so that people can safeguard themselves and their children, but this is not enough as numerous innocent people have been either injured or killed during shootings.
“The Community Policing Forum (CPF) needs to work with and assist the police. We cannot continue to live in fear of our lives and the lives of our children,” Williams said.
Community activist, Celeste King, joined residents to handover a memorandum to station commander of the Wentworth police station on January 11, with hopes that the area will be swept clean of corrupt police officers and gangs.
