Representing five countries, China, Mexico, Italy, Spain and Vietnam, the competition saw members of the Rosewood Senior Citizens preparing authentic dishes from their respective countries. These dishes were then judged by guests, including Ward 64 councillor Gavin Hegter and Primrose Cele, an administrative clerk from the Department of Health.

Amid the delightful aromas of international cuisines, the judges were treated to a remarkable array of dishes, each one meticulously crafted by the seniors. Beyond showcasing their culinary prowess, each country also presented its rich cultural traditions through vibrant table displays adorned in colours and decor associated with their country.

Following careful deliberation, Mexico emerged triumphant with their tantalising tacos and burritos, captivating the palates of the judges. Nevertheless, every participant received praise for their dedication and creativity, both in the kitchen and in their presentation.

Alongside the culinary delights, representatives from Absa were on hand to discuss senior citizen accounts, emphasising financial well-being for the elderly. The Association for the Aged (Tafta) also organised sugar and blood pressure testing, promoting healthy living among the senior citizens.

Reflecting on the event, Adams expressed her delight in providing a day of enjoyment and camaraderie for the senior citizens. “It was thrilling to offer something so unique and different. I would definitely deem it a success,” remarked Adams.

Echoing her sentiments, Hegter commended the seniors for their hospitality and the delectable fare they presented.

Bissondut said the cooking competition was a resounding success, and she extended her gratitude to the judges, sponsors, contributors and the hardworking seniors who made the event possible.
