The event at MTSS Hall in Merebank attracted around 260 individuals who came together for an evening of appreciation, entertainment and camaraderie.

The Dingalings and Netflix star Koobeshen Naidoo provided some comedic relief.

MCF chairperson Premilla Deonath highlighted the importance of valuing security personnel, as they too have families, emotions, and personal issues. She added that security companies operating in Merebank were approached to nominate patrollers and police officers who demonstrated exceptional dedication to their work.

Honourees:

  • Nkululeko Gumede of Blue Security.
  • Illovo Sugar Mill Pty Ltd Merebank employees.
  • Sadha Govender of Mzansi Securifire.
  • A retired Blue Security employee who continues to patrol the streets and serve the community.

  • Krishna Nair (Alvin) of Wentworth Police Station.
  • Thesagan Naidoo of SA Ultimate Protection Services.

Deonath said the guests enjoyed a three-course dinner and a performance by comedy group, The Dingalings. To close off the evening, the dance floor was opened, and the guests enjoyed celebrating alongside the community heroes.

Deonath emphasised the significance of the event. “It is important to thank them for their sacrifices. They work very long hours, face dangerous situations, and put their lives at risk in order to protect us. Valuing what they do increases morale, fosters teamwork, and builds trust between the public and security services. When officers feel valued, they are likely to uphold high standards of professionalism and integrity.”

Deonath said the event was a major success with many people coming forward and commending them on the event. “The awardees themselves were very moved by the trophies and sandblasted framed mirrors,” she said.

The night reiterated the strength of community cohesion in the battle against crime. “We have demonstrated that the community, security services, and police can join forces to curb crime. When the security services and the community collaborate, great things happen,” Deonath added.
