Wentworth murder: Man sentenced to 15 years
The accused fired several shots at the deceased who had just come out of his yard on his way to attend afternoon classes.
A WENTWORTH man was recently sentenced to 15 years imprisonment at the Durban Magistrate’s Court for the murder of a teenager in 2023.
Dondre Addison, who was 18 at the time of the incident, but now turned 20, was linked to the murder of Leyton Fynn who was shot dead on Richard Winn Road in Wentworth on June 7, 2023.

According to the information submitted in court, Addison had fired several shots at the deceased who just came out of his yard on his way to attend extra classes at his school.
Police spokesperson in Wentworth, Captain Mbuso Gumede, said the members of Vispol from Wentworth Police Station together with the detectives attended the scene, and the evidence was collected by a specialised unit.
“On June 30, 2023 the accused was arrested and later charged for murder. The case docket was then assigned to Detective Sergeant Ntuthuko Cele who followed the case using his knowledge and investigation skills.
“He obtained statements from witnesses and collected all the necessary evidence to present a strong case before court. The accused had appeared in regional court on several occasions, until he was sentenced for murder on March 7. The accused is serving 15 years imprisonment at Westville Prison,” Gumede said.
Detective commander Lt Col Dale Duke applauded Cele for securing a conviction in the murder case, and for ensuring that justice has been served to the family.
The investigating officer thanked the witnesses who were co-operative and brave enough to give evidence during the court proceedings.
The station commander, Colonel Sinayo Mtshali, urged the public to blow the whistle against crime, and be the eyes and ears of the police.
