Caxton Cares Square by Square Project nears 200 mark
With the June 2 deadline nearing, wool and blanket donations are still urgently needed.
A STAGGERING 84 blankets for the Caxton Cares Square by Square Project were received in just one week. This brings the total of complete blankets to 164, with enough blocks to make another eight blankets.
“We just don’t have enough wool to even sew the blocks together, and we have been inundated with requests for wool as well,” said the editor of the Southlands/ South Coast SUN, Roelien D’Amico.

“As soon as we can get a donation, we will be able to assist those who are still eager to crochet or knit, and sew the blocks together. Despite this, we are doing phenomenally well. I am so proud to be part of a community that cares so much about others,” she said.
Although the June 2 deadline is looming, there is still time to collect at least 500 knee blankets, which will be distributed to the senior citizens in both distribution areas.
“Scratch through your cupboards, ask your neighbours, friends and family members for donations or already made blankets, but make sure we receive it on time,” D’Amico urges.
Wool, blanket and blocks donations can be dropped off at The Mudpie Co, 771 Marine Drive, The Bluff, or at the SUN office, 33 Main Road, Doonside, Amanzimtoti.
SUN staff member, Gerda Mac Gregor, is as always just a phone call away if you feel uninspired, unmotivated or struggling to remember the next step. You can call her on 031 903 2341, or WhatsApp on 079 728 6787, alternatively you can also email sunads@dbn.caxton.co.za.

There are also breakfast vouchers from Clear Waters Spur in Beach Road up for grabs.
