Watch: Coedmore Bridge finally nears completition

After a long, time-consuming journey, the end of the reconstruction of Coedmore Bridge is finally near as the final touches are put in place.

THE long-suffering Yellowwood Park, Montclair and surrounding area residents can at last see the end of the tunnel with the reconstruction of the Coedmore Bridge nearing completion. Many residents had to endure up to 45-minute daily detours since the bridge was destroyed in the 2022 floods.

Nolwandle Gcaba, Ward 64 and 65 community liaison officer, said that the bridge is essentially complete, and they are just preparing for final developments.

“Roadworks are almost complete. We thank the community for its patience during the period,” said Gcaba.

One of the final developments in the project is the approval of gantry designs.

“Afrostructures is waiting for the gantry designs to be approved as the previous Ward councillor, Gavin Hegter, had stressed that he needs them reinstated to prevent trucks passing through the residential area,” said Gcaba.

The eThekwini Municipality invested R48m in building the 90m two-lane bridge with pedestrian walkways. The project was financed by the National Treasury’s Municipal Disaster Response Grant.
