Residents celebrate official opening of Coedmore Bridge
Coedmore Bridge was officially opened for traffic, with much celebration, after an eight-month delay from its original date of November 2024.
FINALLY after nearly a year of delays, detours and time spent in congested traffic, Yellowwood Park residents could finally let out a collective sigh of relief as Coedmore Bridge officially opened. The cheers, hooting of horns and waving hands by motorists welcomed the first cars which crossed the newly reconstructed bridge on August 1.

Originally washed away by the April 2022 floods, the bridge has been rebuilt as a modern 90m twin-carriageway highway with pedestrian walkways and extra safety features. Construction on the bridge began in early 2024 and was originally slated for completion by November. But due to unforeseen circumstances the project was delayed.
Now, with almost finished signage, the fitted height limit gantry and last remaining minor works in process along the road, the primary structure is finally open again for residents to use.

Nolwandle Gcaba, the community liaison officer for ward 64, said this is a great win for the community.
“A huge thank you to eThekwini Municipality, Afrostructures, the sub-contractors and all the locals who have dedicated their time and efforts into getting the bridge up,” said Gcaba.
For over two years, the R48m reconstruction had resulted in people having to make detours, which were more than 45 minutes longer.
Though work on the main road remains ongoing, Coedmore Bridge is once again open.
