Wasp spreads loaves of love

Wasp once again spread the love by making donations of bread to various organisations in Durban South.

THE NPO Widowed and Single Parents (Wasp) has once again donated 500 loaves of bread to disadvantaged families and organisations all over Durban South.

Brian Naidoo, founder of the organisation, said the donation was made to the Merewent Cheshire Home, The Hope Centre for Children, St Monica’s Children’s Home, New Wave Children’s Home, Warming the Hearts Through Feeding, Cheshire Home for Adults, SCDIFA Children’s Home, Cheshire Sparks Estate and various individual recipients in Merebank.

Naidoo said that the project is a product of his passion for philanthropy.

“We have a love for giving to others and helping humanity. It is the greatest thing, something that cannot be described or explained. Bread is something that can be found in most homes and with the rising cost of living, many people simply cannot afford to purchase it or other necessities,” said Naidoo.

He said that the majority of the houses and frail care facilities they support can cover only 45% of their operational costs via government subsidy, with the balance covered through donations and fundraising efforts. There are also facilities that receive no funding, and community support is crucial to their survival.

Wasp is requesting the public to help it carry out its mission by donating staple foods like rice and bread, clothes, shoes, nappies and tinned goods.
