Self-defence class inspires community to stand strong against crime
In an attempt to help women and children protect themselves, the Durban South Security held a free self-defence class.
THE Montclair Recreation Hall was filled with chops and throws as the Durban South Security put on a free self-defence class for women and children on August 30 as a means of empowering the community with vital safety skills.

The class, organised by the Alex Karate Academy, invited everyone from athletes to women and children, who wanted to learn how to protect themselves.
Cheryl Rusk, PRO for Durban South Security, said the campaign was born out of compassion for the rising number of women, schoolchildren and domestic workers who have fallen victim to theft and street crime in recent times.
“We want to ensure our community feels ready and capable to defend themselves,” said Rusk.
The practical lesson covered key self-defence moves and situational awareness tips designed to enhance confidence and provide a sense of security in potential life or death situations.
