THE Merewest Community Foundation (MCF) hosted a night of laughter with its Dingalings comedy show fundraiser recently. The MTSS hall was packed to capacity, with community members wanting to get in on the jokes while supporting a good cause.

Premilla Deonath, MCF chairperson, said the fundraiser was a great success and a touching reminder of the power of togetherness.

“It was an absolutely hilarious night of comedy that had the audience laughing together,” she said.

Reason behind the fundraiser

The funds raised from the show will go directly towards several of MCF’s ongoing community upliftment programmes, including the maintenance and upkeep of their project, Keep Merebank Beautiful, providing for underprivileged children, youth, struggling families and unemployed residents through free initiatives like boot camps, first-aid courses and safety and security empowerment programmes.

Deonath said the funds will also go towards the printing and distributing of the second edition of its free emergency evacuation booklet that is issued to residents. The organisation also plans to drive a project to see the implementation of a satellite police station that will increase safety for the Merebank community.

She said the decision to host a comedy show was deliberate and was inspired by the community’s need to connect with each other.

“Laughter is the best medicine. We wanted to bring people together for a night of comedy while supporting a great cause. The Dingalings show delivered on both fronts,” she said.

Deonath extended a huge thanks to the Dingalings stars, the MCF team and the community members who supported the event. “Your support means the world. We’re proud of the show we put on and the massive support received,” she said.
