Anele Cele, one of the event organisers, said the event was a way to empower the learners by providing them with the opportunity to showcase themselves and present their personalities and talents.

The evening started off with a welcome ceremony, followed by the Miss Mowat pageant. The contestants stunned the audience in four categories, sportswear, casual wear, traditional wear and evening gown. The talent section followed and featured high energy performances that left the audience clapping along in support.

Cele said the competition was tight with all participants performing to their best. For general education and training (Get) phase, Grade Nine’s Mathalente Nguse was crowned Miss Mowat. Emihle Phahla was named first runner-up and Asabonga Mtolo was named second runner-up.

In the further education and training phase, the title of Miss Mowat was given to Grade 12’s Yolanda Ndelu. Zizile Mgabhi was awarded first runner-up and Phyllis Chipojola was awarded second runner-up.

Other pageants were also awarded specific titles for characters and displayed throughout the contest. Miss Personality was awarded to Oluhle Shange and the most improved award was awarded to Khwezi Madulini.

Cele extended a special thanks to Boity Mkhize and Charmaine Luthuli for their hard work and commitment towards training the contestants.

“It is important to have events like this in our school because it helps boost the learners’ self-esteem, it allows them to build confidence and celebrate their unique talents and skills. We had a questioning round for the pageant; this helps them with public speaking and expressing what they desire for themselves and the school,” said Cele.
