The fun day formed part of the school’s ongoing mission to promote sustainability and inspire learners to think innovatively about recycling and waste reduction.
The mission
The young designers were tasked to step onto the catwalk in outfits created from materials that can be wholly recycled. From cardboard and plastic to paper, old clothes, and other reusable items, the learners turned regular waste into imaginative and eye-catching fashion. In so doing, it not only celebrated the importance of recycling but also the learners’ artistic talents and flair in design.
The winner
Coming first in the girls’ category, Tinashe Msweli impressed the judges with her innovative design. She transformed an old school dress into this beautiful creation with layers of newspaper detail.
Ziphelelisiwe Dlamini, Daniel Scholtz and Lishaan Patel were some of the other stunning entrants who showcased their imagination by turning waste into runway fashion. From full metallic outfits inspired by the future to flower-inspired gowns made of paper, these young designers showed that sustainability can be coupled with great style.
The teachers and parents applauded the learners for their efforts in making the pieces.
