Alta Haffner, an author and publisher based on The Bluff, later commented that the literary program featured contributions from three exceptionally talented storytellers.
Ekta Somera initiated the readings, captivating the children with her recently published work, “Lilly the Llama, Party Drama.” Following her, Haffner shared “I Love You So,” a story she held particularly dear. The session then concluded with Sthuthukile Biyela recounting the enduring narrative of “Little Red Riding Hood“.
Beyond the stories, the children were also taken on a guided tour through the library. During this exploration, they learned about the importance of proper book care and the necessity of respecting resources shared by the community.
Haffner underscored the pivotal influence books wield in shaping the lives of young individuals. “A book is the best gift you could give a child. It sparks their creativity, curiosity and imagination, tools that will help them find their voice and shape their future. The power of storytelling can never be taken away from them,” she said.
Ultimately, the day’s celebration served as a compelling affirmation of the indispensable role libraries continue to fulfil within communities.
