Michelle is 2014 Wanderers BC women’s champ
Next Saturday, 7 June is the final round of the men's league.

MICHELLE Bezuidenhout is Wanderers Bowling Club’s new women’s singles champ for 2014.
She beat Gerrie Jackson in the semi finals 21-14, then managed to beat Margaret Kitchenbrand in the finals by 21-13.
This is a good sign for Wanderers’ women as two new faces made it to the finals of this year’s women’s open singles championship. Well done Michelle and Margie.
Michelle will compete later in the year in the ‘Champion of champions’ event against all the district club winners. In the women’s senior singles, Mary Rust beat Joan Bruce 21-19 to advance to the next round.
The women also got off to a good start in their league campaign, beating Collegians 5-0 at Sherwood on Saturday morning, then picked up a further two points against Hillcrest in the afternoon match.
The men also did well in the penultimate eighth round of the interclub league challenge. The B, C and D sides all won 5-0 against Firwood, Westville Country Club and Ridley Park respectively.
Dennis Gericke scored a massive 34-8 victory against Firwood with able support from Steve Van Rooyen and team, who won 21-19. This will assure the B side of attaining a promotion to the third division next year and gives the C team a good chance of securing a promotion as well after both sides – skipped by Jimmy Neill and Andy Andraschko – won by 12 shots against Westville Country Club.
Errol Pienaar’s D side managed a winning score of 32-21, in spite of conceding an eight to their Ridley Park opponents. They had support from Robbie Carr’s side, their fellow team mates who also won 21-16.
Unfortunately, the A side only picked up two points in their encounter with Durban at home. This was thanks to a three shot win by Richard Hendicott’s team who staged a remarkable comeback from 18-7 down. Both Lofty Cawthorne and Arnie Harper’s side went down by four and five shots respectively in matches that could have gone either way. It all depends on the results of the final round as to whether the A side will earn a promotion to the first division next year. The E side managed to secure the bonus point against Stella Park away, thanks to a 15 shot win by Ken Koch and his team. Sadly, Eric Kitchenbrand and team battled to a 10 shot loss.
Last Friday the various meat pack winners were: Lamb pack Philippa Armstrong, pork roast and rib fingers Eric and Anne Smit, chicken pack Ian Demmer, rump steak Wendy van Eyk and Jeff Cronje, pork ribs Brian Craig, chicken Brian Craig.
The R500 snowball was won by Wayne Unger.
In the bowls R50 draw, R750 was won by Billy Lottering, R500 by Rob Kemp, and R250 went to Thomas Simpkins.
Next Saturday, 7 June is the final round of the men’s league. As part of Wanderers Club’s celebrations, there will be a bring and braai at the club from 12.30pm. The club will supply salad and rolls, just take your own meat. Eric Redman will play his popular music. Members are urged to support this event in droves.
After the breakfast trips on Sunday 8 June, the club has a live band ‘The Locals’ to entertain members from 12.30pm to 4.30pm. The kitchen will be open.
On Sunday, 15 June is the staging of the Rawson’s fours skins. This was cancelled last month due to the nationals so it is hoped that a full complement of teams will take to the field. Call Bob Hayward on 076-403-2265 to enter your team, or enter it on the list on the board.
