Hikers to get to grips with Gillitts

Hike around the streets of Gillitts and down into Stockville Valley.

DURBAN Ramblers Hiking Club visits the streets of Gillitts and Stockville on Saturday, 9 April.

This is a new hike around the streets of Gillitts and down into Stockville Valley. Hikers are to meet and park at 1.45pm at the Gillitts Post Office shopping centre at 15 Old Main Road. There will be drinks afterwards at a restaurant in the shopping centre. This hike is graded two, moderate.

On Sunday, 10 April, hikers will walk Stockville Road.

Walk to St Helier through Giba Gorge and scramble up to the pylon and Winston Park. The hike continues on towards Stockville Valley, across grasslands and past interesting old homesteads before the uphill climb back to the cars. Hikers are cautioned that this hike is steep in parts. Meet and park at 7.30am at Zephyr/ Pintos Shopping Centre, 7 Old Main Road (drive parallel to M13, take exit 26 Everton Road towards Gillitts/ Kloof). This hiker over about 17km is graded three.
