Quins batsmen come up short against Ilembe
Medium fast seamer Sean Edward captured two wickets for 42 runs in eight overs and medium paced seamer Trevian Peter claimed two wickets for 54 runs in seven overs.
UMBILO Harlequins Cricket Club’s first team played its 20th and final cricket match of the current season against a a composite district team from Stanger.
Relatively pleasant conditions prevailed on this mid-autumn day with a few bouts of morning drizzle provided by an overcast sky.
Ilembe’s top order batsmen staved off the initial onslaught of some wayward fast bowling by Quins’ attack, allowing Ilembe’s middle order batsmen to dictate and eventually dominate during the middle and latter overs of a match reduced due to a slightly late commencement and an inclement weather interlude.
Medium fast seamer Sean Edward captured two wickets for 42 runs in eight overs and medium paced seamer Trevian Peter claimed two wickets for 54 runs in seven overs. Ilembe compiled a competitive 228 runs for the loss of six wickets in their reduced allotment of 42 overs.
Quins’ number three batsman Nicholas Moffitt played superbly with an array of strokes, executed with nifty footwork, good balance and correct shot selection to eventually be bowled by Ilembe’s strike bowler Sashain. Nicholas top-scored for Quins with 59 runs. Number four batsman Devan Dippenaar was run out for 21 runs. Trevian Peter managed 14 runs and Sean Edward accumulated a dozen runs. Quins were dismissed for 140 runs, losing the match by 88 runs in the 37th over. This concludes the league match season.
The club’s annual awards event will be held at the Fynnland Combined Sports Club at Lt King Park, off Smith Drive on Friday, 8 April from 6.30pm.
