IT was women’s day at Wentworth Bowling Club’s development bowls on Wednesday, 6 April when Margaret Walters and Geanne Mitchell showed their competitors a clean pair of heels to take top spot.
Albert van Niekerk and Dirk Venter were the recipients of the weekly biscuit prize.
The board draw was won by Zoë Dougal with Albert van Niekerk taking second prize. The development bowls initiative is driven to get members of the community to try their hand at the game of bowls. Play starts at 3pm and an open invitation is extended to all. The club coaches are available every Wednesday at 1.30pm to assist new bowlers and to help experienced bowlers iron out any bad habits that may have crept into their game. Anyone keen to take advantage of this can call John Somerville on 083-512-4440 or Ellen Loots on 078-069-9287.
The Bluff Meat men’s bowls played on Friday, 8 April saw Dudley Dorrofield, Buck Boettiger and Henry Welgemoed take first place with a resounding plus 22. Jumbo Nel, Robin de Gouviea and Hennie Marais placed second. Terry Micholson, Herby Roux and Ben Venter were awarded the sportsmen’s prize. The beef raffle was won by Tom Cavanagh and John Somerville was happy to take home the raffled pork roast. The first 60/40 board went the way of Gerald ‘Castor’ Royle and Kurt Spack. Dudley Dorrofield added to the day’s takings by winning first prize on the second board, while Ken Koch pocketed the second prize.
