Pensioners bowls cancelled due to public holiday

IT was quiet at Wentworth Bowling Club this week, with only a few games played.

A handful of eager bowlers arrived on Tuesday to play tabs in.

Jumbo Nel and his team of Brian Smith and Johan Voster bowled their way to victory.

Tuesday’s South Coast pensioners has been cancelled this week due to the public holiday but there will be tabs in for all men and women wanting to celebrate National Women’s Day.

Wentworth Bowling Club has sponsored the hall to CANSA on Tuesday, 9 August to host its Cuppa for Cansa fundraiser. The club wishes the women all the best in raising funds for such a worthy cause.

Wednesday’s Family and Friends development bowls saw Terrance McGlyniss and Lorraine White take the first prize while Albert Van Niekerk and Colin Howes were happy to take home the sportsman’s prize. The first prize on the 60/40 board was won by Hazel and second prize was won by Terrance. The club encourages all new bowlers, young and old to try their hand at the game of bowls. Play starts at 3pm. Beginners can practice from 1.30pm with coaches John and Elleen.

The women’s drawn fours final game was played on Friday morning. Maree Sadie, Ellen Loots , Eileen Du Plessis and Margaret Walters emerged as the club’s drawn fours winners after a good battle between their opponents Cora van der Westhuizen, Zoe Dougall, Gwen Tait and Bernie Pool.

All members participating in the Grace Hare trips are advised that games will be played on Saturday, 13 August and also on Saturday, 20 August. Games start at 9am. Check the notice boards for other competitions.

The club’s deepest condolences to Harry Zeitsman and his family on the death of Molly. Molly’s wake will be held at WBC on Tuesday, 9 August after the memorial service.

Calling all lovers of dance and music, come join in at the club every Friday evening from 7.30pm to dance the night away with girl/guy duo, Ringz as they take you down memory lane with live music from the 60s, 70s, 80s, country and boeremusiek. There is a cash bar and light meals available from the kitchen.

The Smashing Pumpkin kitchen will be open daily (except Mondays) from 8am until 7.30pm offering breakfast, light meals, delicious salads, home-cooked meals and much more. Takeaways and sit down are available. Call Dylan or Steve on 072-944-6305 to place your orders.

The hall is available for hiring for private functions and green and braai facilities are on offer for corporate functions and team building events. The big screen can be set up to watch sporting highlights. Contact the club on 031-467-7103 for details.
