Thoughts go out to Lorraine

The main club wishes to thank Man International and Damon Beard for the spectacular show they put on at the ladies night on Friday.

THOUGHTS and prayers are extended from Wanderers Bowling Club to stalwart Lorraine du Preez and the club wishes her a speedy recovery after her recent operation.

Get well soon, Nunu.

This weekend saw three Durban Wanderers sides enter the 35th annual Empangeni open bowls tournament.

Last year’s winning skip Steve van Rooyen and his side this year of Richard Hendicott, Anthony Carr and Terrance McGlynn unfortunately could not defend the title, finishing in second by one skin.

Kim Hawkins and his side of Mike Freeman, Lorinne Hawkins and Jackie Freeman finished fourth.

The ‘luckiest’ side of the three appeared to be Gary Moffat, Eric Smit and Jeff Bolt’s, whose lead Tommy Simpkins not only assisted in them winning a session, but he also picked up the R500 petrol raffle, the spider, and on his return home, the news of the second prize of R500 in the R50 monthly bowls draw. First prize of R750 went to Alan Swan, and the third prize of R250 was shared by Rob Philogene and Dan Paruk.

Friday’s snowball and Lotto were both carry-overs.

The various meat pack winners were:

  • Lamb pack – Foxy,
  • beef – Brian Reid,
  • pork roast – Henry Jack,
  • rump – Des Demmer,
  • chicken pack – Johnny McGregor,
  • chicken – Alan Swan.

This week’s joker draw saw a consolation winner in Pat McGlynn win R50. The carry-over is rapidly approaching R3,000.

The main club wishes to thank Man International and Damon Beard for the spectacular show they put on at the ladies night on Friday. The women really enjoyed it.

This weekend sees the bikers host the annual ‘Thumpers spring jol’ on Saturday, 3 September. All are welcome to join in the fun with food stalls and live music available.

On Sunday, 4 September, the Port Natal men’s pairs sponsored by Durban Wanderers Bowling Club will commence. Good bowling is extended to all 136 entries.
