This will be a short hike through this pretty reserve and surrounding area. Hikers will meet at 1.45pm at the parking area of the reserve. Take the Jacobs off-ramp from the southern freeway, turn seaward at the traffic lights into Quality Road and follow this road until Tara Road and turn left into it. The reserve is immediately on the right hand side of the road.

Hikers are encouraged to stay afterwards for a bring and braai and a social. This 5km hike is graded one, easy.

On Sunday, 4 September hikers will visit Ballito for an inland hike.

Call hike leader Jenny Rooks on 084-952-0622.

This is a revival of a previous hike which was last done in 2014, incorporating the Glen Shaka trail in the Umhlali area, and passes through canelands, grasslands, protea and macadamia nut plantations, coastal forest and shady streams. There is a R20 per person donation towards the maintenance of the trails that hikers will be walking on. Meet at 7.30am at Virginia airport or at 8.15am at Shell garage, Ballito (from M4, turn left past the shopping centre) and hikers will travel in convoy to the start. Graded two to three, this is a hike of about 16km.
