New 1,000 Hills outing for weekend hikers

On Sunday, 2 October, hikers will take in the Sauro's pools and splash rock at Krantzkloof Nature Reserve.

DURBAN Ramblers Hiking Club’s weekend hiking programme continues this first weekend of October, with an outing into the Valley of 1,000 Hills (Wootton Avenue) on Saturday, 1 October.

This new Saturday hike will see hikers meet and park at 1.45pm at the Pot and Kettle at 168 Old Main Road, Botha’s Hill. The outing will incorporate the 1,000 Hills parkrun trail in Wootton Avenue. A R20 donation per person will go towards trail maintenance. This hike over about 8km is graded two or moderate.

On Sunday, 2 October, hikers will take in the Sauro’s pools and splash rock at Krantzkloof Nature Reserve. Hike leader is Margie Forbes and she can be reached on 073-437-6915. This walk through the gorge to Sauro’s pools will return along the river. It is steep in places, so fitness is essential. Hikers will meet at 7.30am at the main picnic parking area. The reserve entrance fee is R25. This 12km hike is graded three to four.
