Newbie novice bowler helps her partner to pairs compo win

The community is invited to take advantage of the Family and Friends development bowls initiative played on Wednesday afternoons at 3pm.

WENTWORTH Bowling Club congratulates novice bowler Helen Watson who, after two weeks of practise, and before playing an internal competition, went out with Bernie Pool to play in the annual Berea BC novice pairs competition to annihilate the opposition in the first round.

Bernie and Helen, you have done the club and its development bowls project proud.

Last week’s club bowls started with the monthly Chicken Shack pairs competitors taking to the greens on Wednesday morning to battle the bias for bowling honours. Husband and wife pair, Kurt and Dawn Spack ensured they secured the tributes by winning both their games and taking home the first prize for the competition. In second place were the home side of Brian Smith and Robin de Gouveia. Herby Roux and Ben Venter managed to amass a shot difference of nine in their second game to take the second session prize. The 60/40 board saw Honey Kitchenbrand pocket the first prize and Robbie Carr enjoyed the fruits of the second prize.

Thursday morning heralded the monthly Rawson’s breakfast trips. Again bowlers were treated to a wholesome breakfast provided by Steve, Bronwyn and Nathan. Once the satiated bowlers took to the greens, it was Bob Haywood and his sister Ann Hewer, ably assisted by her husband Mal, who took full honours with a massive score of four plus 33. Luvoyo Ndava, Chad Wilson and Ryan Warren ended the morning in second place with a respectable four plus 14. Second session was secured by Willy Richardson, Ken Koch and Johan Nel. Reg Behr won the raffled bottle of whiskey and Bridget White and Margaret Walters each a bottle of Rawsons red wine. Eric Coetzer and Honey Kitchenbrand shared the prizes on the first 60/40 board and Zazi and John Somerville were winners on the second board. Bowlers are reminded that the Rawsons competition includes an accumulated score that ends in June 2017. The score sheet is on the club notice board.

Friday morning made it three mornings in a row that bowlers took to the greens at Wentworth BC when the regular competitors in the Bluff Meats men’s bowls contested for prizes. The team comprising Terry Micholson, Steve Evenwell and Ben Venter took first place by one shot from Gerald ‘C’ Royle, Derek Stevens and Tomcat Cavanagh. Sportsmen’s prize went to Colin Howes, Barry Buttley and Ivor Aylward. Ben Venter was happy to leave the club with the substantial raffled pork roast securely tucked under his arm. Steve Evenwell expressed his pleasure when his number was pulled from the bag to win the coveted roast beef. Ken Thomas,Tom Cloete, Chris Pozyn and Derek Stevens were all successful on the two 60/40 boards drawn.
